Hi everyone! Stacia here, founder and CEO of Love and XO Julia. As a mom of two tweens, I am constantly looking for more creative ways to connect with my girls. I’m sure some of you are experiencing something similar, but it seems to me that being a tween/teen means family time isn’t as cool as it used to be (more on that here). That’s why I wanted to share some of the ways we’re making our time connecting at home just a bit more exciting.
One recent success has been family happy hour while we are making dinner. In our house this happens on rare evenings when we are all (or almost all) at home. It includes a cheese plate or whatever festive snack foods I can quickly arrange, plus a fun mocktail for my girls to entice them to stay. It’s been fun to experiment with different drinks that excite my girls, our selection has ranged from Italian sodas to kombucha to their favorite sodas. The first happy hour was bumpy, the second and third only slightly better but the next time, when my mind was elsewhere and I had forgotten all about happy hour, my girls reminded me and I couldn’t help but smile, knowing this once mandatory event had become something they were actually looking forward to. I would love to hear about the creative ways you are connecting with your tweens/teens too! Send us an email with your ideas, firstname.lastname@example.org.
